Choosing a domain name for a writer's website

CO.UK or COM?

Your first choice is to decide if you want a CO.UK or a COM domain name.

CO.UK names are appropriate if your market is mainly UK based.

COM names are best if you are aiming at an international market.

COM names are more expensive at CO.UK names.

Some people choose to register both the CO.UK and COM versions of their name to protect their 'brand'.

Choosing a name

Next you need to decide on the name. Many authors choose their own name. Others choose the name of their book. And others choose a pen name - perhaps the name of a column written regularly for a magazine.

Ideally, your name should be shortish, easy to spell and not contain any hypens. However, many domain names now, particulary short ones, so you may have to opt for a name that is not idea but best matches the nature and content of your website.
