Content Management Systems (CMS)
A Content Management System (CMS) is a method of updating the content of a website without the help of a website designer. If you website has a content management system, it means that you will be able to update your website 24/7.
There are many different types of CMS. We offer two systems depending on your needs:
1. Our own, very easy to use CMS system which is suitable for people who want to be able to update text and images only. You will able to log into the CMS at any time, night or day, and update your site. As with any CMS you do need a basic level of computer literacy to be able to use the CMS. For example, to update the text, you need to be able to use a text editor similar to Microsoft Word. If you want to update images on your site, you need to be able to resize you images and save them using the 'save for web' setting on your image editing software. You also need to be able to upload them onto the server using our CMS software. Please not that you cannot add pages to your site using this system.
2. Wordpress websites - we use the popular blogging software Wordpress to create websites for small businesses and individuals. This can be a low cost content management system if you choose one of the vast number of pre-designed Wordpress themes that are available online. We can also produce bespoke wordpress themes to meet your needs. Wordpress websites allow you to update text and images on your site and also to create new menu items and pages. The Wordpress admin area is quite daunting on first sight, but quite intuitive once you get the hang of it. Other options
Let us update your website for you
If you are concerned about your computing abilities, or simply do not have the time to make changes to your website, we recommend that you let us do your updates for you. For example, if you require regular changes, say every week, month or quarter, we would be happy to give you an estimate to cover updates for one year or on an ad hoc basis. Fees vary depending on how often you need updates and how much needs updating.
DIY websites and hosting packages
Another option is to take out a hosting and web builder package with us. This package includes hosting for one year and access to a simple web builder software package designed for the technically challenged! At any time you can log in and make changes to text and graphics and add and remove pages. For a small fee, you can opt for a superior web builder package where you have access to a greater range of templates and options. This is a very low cost website option and can cost you as little as £2.50 per month.
Adobe Contribute
Adobe Contribute is by far the easiest way for you to update, create, and publish web content to any HTML website. If you are familiar with a word processor package such as 'Word' you will be able to use Contribute. To use it, you will need to load the Contribute software onto your computer. If you decide to go the Contribute route, budget for an extra £100 - £150 on top of the cost of the design of your website (it can be used with any type of html website).
