Domain names

You will need a Domain Name for your website. For example, the domain name for this website is www.thewebsitedesignstudio.co.uk. Unless you already have a Domain Name, you will need to choose and register one.

Finding a suitable domain name can be tricky. Often, the most obvious names have already gone and you will need to find a suitable name that is free or combine names as we have done for our Domain Name.

We will help you choose a Domain Name and register if for you (renewable after 2 years).

Hosting and email accounts

All websites need a computer or 'server' to hold or 'host' the files. The computer needs to be continually linked to the internet so that people can access your website 24 hours a day. Often, large companies have their own web servers but smaller organisations usually pay a Web Hosting Service to host their website.

Finding the right hosting service is important as they vary in the type of services they offer (capacity, speed, reliability, maintenance options, costs). You do not want to find yourself paying for services that you do not need.

We will assess your needs and arrange the most appropriate hosting service for your website. We can also include e-mail accounts and/or e-mail forwarding.

Maintaining your website

The nature of your organisation may mean that your website needs to be updated regularly with new information.

We can update your website for you (at an agreed extra cost).

Websites that you can update yourself

We can set up your website so that you can edit the content yourself. However, there is a set up charge for this service (usually about £25) and an extra yearly charge in the region of £10 per month). Be warned, updating any website can be a time consuming exercise requiring a basic level of computer expertise (don't believe other web design companies say!). Setting up a maintenance account with us is often a more cost effective solution.

Photographs and graphics/logos

Photographs and graphics bring a website to life. Some clients already have photographs and graphics for inclusion on their websites. Other clients have nothing except an idea of what they would like.

Our website design service can include logo design and photograph sourcing if necessary. From our experience, high quality, professional photographs are best if you want to project a professional image. However, some small businesses are happy with a more personal look and feel, using photographs they have taken themselves.

Copy writing

A website is a ‘shop window’ for your business. It’s important that your website gives an excellent first impression and entices your customers in to find out more. 

Many clients prefer to use their own text, but if required, we can provide a professional copy writing service where we 'sharpen' your existing content or take a brief from you and create new content from scratch.

Getting noticed (Search Engine Optimisation)

Creating a website is only half of the story. You need to make sure that your website can be found by the major search engines such as Google and Yahoo.

The process of making sure that your website can be found is known as Search Engine Optimisation. We will make relevant content recommendations to make sure your website can be found by the major search engines and we will manually submit your website to Google and Yahoo and other search engines on launch..

To maintain your search engine rating (the position that your website appears when someone does a search) you will need to regularly submit your site to the major search engines. Again, we can do this for you (for a small extra cost) or we can tell you how to do it yourself.

Pay Per Click advertising

Pay Per Click is where you pay to have a guaranteed place near the top of the listings, and pay a small amount every time somebody clicks through and views your site.

Websites that use this method to reach the top position of the listings are sometimes referred to as 'sponsored sites/links'.

There are two major companies who provide PayPerClick accounts; Google (whose network includes: Tiscali, Ask Jeeves, NTL, Shopping.com, Reuters and Times Online) and Yahoo Search Marketing (whose network includes: Yahoo, Wanadoo, MSN UK, Altavista and Lycos). We can set up a pay per click advertising campaign for you.
