Target audience for a musician's website


It is very important to consider your target audience in your planning stage, as like you objectives and mission statement, this will influence everything you do on your site.

When considering your target audience, you should try to identify those who will be looking at your site and the main characteristics of those people. You can then position your site in such as way that they respond to it positively. For example, if your target audience consists of the 18 to 30 age group, they are likely to have different likes and dislikes to a target audience in the 45 to 55 age group.

Ideally, you need to identify the following characteristics in your target audience:

1. Demographic profile: in other words what is their likely age, gender, marital status, ethnicity, occupation etc
2. Geographic profile: where do they live? - country, county, city, town, size of population etc
3.Behavioral profile: why are they likely to be visiting your website? Do they want to buy something? Do they want to hear you play etc
4. Psychographic profile: what are their interests, activities, opinions, attitudes etc

It's likely that you have already though about all these areas without knowing it, so the process of identifying your target audience will not be difficult. As a result of your research, you can make sure that your website is designed to be attractive and interesting to the group that you are targeting.
